Patriot Ancestor: Eliphalet Densmore

Submitted by Compatriot Robert Weis

My maternal Great (6x) Grandfather was Eliphalet Densmore, (sometimes spelled Dinsmore or Dunsmore). Born 2 December 1725 in Littleton, Massachusetts, he married Hanna Treadwell on 5 October 1757. He died 3 November 1811.

In 1775, at the age of 50, served as 2nd Lieutenant at the “alarm” at Lexington under Col. William Perscottʼs 13 Massachusetts Regiment and promoted to Captain on 26 May 1775 by the Provincial Congress. This is documented by the entry of SAR member #132698.

Unfortunately, I have yet to make the absolute connection between his son, Asa, and his grandson, Gilman which keeps me from using his credentials for entry to the SAR. But my research reveals the Densmores married into many Revolutionary families in New England. Among these were Fuller, Treadwell, Hobson, Parmelee, Sawyer and Raymond. The Raymondʼs are well documented and was the easiest path for me to take for entry to the SAR while still trying to make that connection.

My great grandfather, Charles Rufus Sr., married Florence Parmelee, the daughter of Ann Eliza Raymond. Her grandfather was Gersham Raymond. Born 12 January 1725, he was not a military man but a Massachusetts politician during the Revolution.
